Hi and thanks for your question,
During a track inspection we would look through the S&C for a number of issues visually such as loose stretcher bars or bolts, any sign of damage or unusual wear etc. This could also be a build up of debris.
Going more into depth we carry out SO53 & 54 inspections where we measure the tolerances and die the crossing to show any cracks. Periodic examinations are also carried out to determine measurements throughout.
We have to attend a number of courses to gain the knowledge before we can put this into practice on the track where you are mentored to build the experience and knowledge.
