Finding new ways to attract and recruit talent
Throughout my career, my passion has consistently revolved around the pursuit of continuous improvement. In every position I've held, I've directed my efforts towards enhancing processes and adapting to the dynamic changes in the market, particularly within the realm of recruitment.
Furthermore, I have an appreciation for roles that provide communication and support at all levels. Working in recruitment is especially fulfilling when you can assist a candidate throughout the entire journey—from the application phase to the interview and ultimately securing their dream role. The sense of accomplishment comes not only from improving the overall process for a seamless candidate experience but also from being a crucial point of support during what can be an anxious process.
What i also love about recruitment is the ever-changing nature of the work. Each day brings new faces, fresh projects, and opportunities for improvement, providing a dynamic environment that keeps me engaged and motivated.
I am a Resourcing Business Partner for System Operator
In my present position, my main responsibility is to attract talent for Network Rail's System Operator function. This entails establishing a strong business partnership with my client area, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of their needs and requirements. My emphasis lies in workforce planning and the implementation of proactive recruitment strategies.
A central aspect of my role involves a dedicated commitment to continuous improvement. I consistently explore new approaches to enhance efficiency, supporting my client area while simultaneously improving the overall candidate experience.
I am currently working on a project aimed at establishing brand awareness for System Operator and the diverse roles within this function. This includes the development of media and recruitment strategies designed to cultivate a continuous pipeline of talent, even during non-recruitment periods. Additionally, I am organising open events to engage potential candidates, implementing talent pooling initiatives, and exploring various other avenues to achieve the project's objectives.
One of my other focus points is creating and presenting period reporting, identifying trends and patterns, strengths and area's for improvement within recruitment and demonstrating this to senior leaders to obtain by in for targeted recruitment projects and campaigns.
The satisfaction and variety
As mentioned earlier, the satisfaction of guiding a candidate throughout the recruitment process and helping them secure their ideal position is truly fulfilling. Moreover, there is a sense of accomplishment in assisting the hiring manager in identifying the perfect fit and witnessing a successful match at the conclusion of the project.
The diversity of each day and the range of projects I lead or participate in contribute to the dynamic nature of my role. In recruitment, there is plenty of opportunity to be creative and take the lead on new initiatives, making the work both exciting and fulfilling.
Don't rush, understand the role in which your applying for..
One of my top tips for recruitment is to take your time in understanding the role in which your applying for and why you'd be a perfect fit not only for the recruiter but also for yourself!
Take your time to learn about the role, read up on the company's website and understand their values, direction and any current projects.
Tailor your CV to the role you are applying for, ensure you have clearly demonstrated the roles essential criteria. Make sure it's easy for a recruiter (not just the role experts) to identify where you meet the requirements they are looking for.
If possible, don't be afraid to reach out to the recruiter or hiring manager! Setting up a pre-application meeting could be a great opportunity for you to learn more about the role, it's a chance for you to sell yourself in person and not just on paper and it can also ease your nerves at interview as you would have previously met and you'll feel more confident knowing more about the team / area.
