Track Maintenance Apprentice
Hi Joe, during the apprenticeship you will have the opportunity to go on placements and observe and interact with different disciplines and welding is one of those placements that if you’re interested in, your line manager can sort something out for a few weeks. If this interests you at the end of the apprenticeship you can speak to your line manager about getting you into that pathway and looking at avenues to get you started

Not as an apprentice, but there are always opportunities in welding upon qualifying. My suggestion would be to follow the track maintenance route, then ask to spend time with the welding department. If you enjoy it, put your feelings out there then apply for a job in welding once qualified.
