Great question. We have many career changers join the business, as the railway is a very unique industry. First of all it's important for you to show how you're transferrable skills match across to the job, and importantly how what your motivations are, this will give you a higher chance of progressing through recruitment and selection.
From there you can see what the additional training and development is available to support that transition. It's very different for each role e.g. signallers undertake an intense residential training school to become competent. Other roles will offer different training and support.
In my experience of Network Rail I've had some really good training and development and that's supported me in moving around the business.
I hope that helps.
